Landscape-Level Approaches

PT Rea

In order to promote sustainable development and forest conservation, we collaborate with a diverse group of partners, including local and regional governments, universities, research institutes, NGOs, and local communities. These collaborations enable us to comply with traceability regulations like the EUDR, while also fostering local development and encouraging responsible environmental practices.

Key initiatives under our landscape-level approach include:

Participatory Spatial Analysis for Land Use

Together with NGO Plan B and local communities, we conduct participatory spatial analyses in eight villages (Buluq Sen, Kelekat, Long Beleh Modang, Long Beleh Haloq, Muai, Muara Ritan, Kembang Janggut, Pulau Pinang, and Perdana). These efforts aim to improve land governance, mitigate deforestation risks, and support provincial spatial planning that balances forest protection with the needs of community development.

Me Sangat-Suwi Wetland Conservation

Our subsidiary, CDM, leads a multi-stakeholder initiative to conserve the Me Sangat-Suwi Wetland in East Kutai. Under regional decree No. 660/K.390/2023, this wetland is designated as a protected area for animal migration. A comprehensive 2024–2028 management action plan has been developed to guide conservation efforts.

Supporting Independent Smallholders

  1. We work with the Indonesian plantation department and local government to support independent smallholders in adopting sustainable GAps. To date, we have supported 61 smallholders in achieving RSPO and ISPO certifications.
  2. SHINES: The SHINES programme is a customised initiative designed to support smallholders by offering training on evolving standards such as the EUDR while promoting forest conservation. For more information, read here.
