Benefits & Facilities

At REA, we prioritise employee well-being by fostering a strong community and high living standards on our estates. Given our remote locations, we provide quality housing, healthcare, education, and recreational facilities to ensure a comfortable lifestyle. We also support regular time off, including long weekends, to help employees recharge. Our commitment extends beyond work—we strive to create a fulfilling environment for both employees and their families.

Housing & Community Living

Providing well-maintained housing and community facilities is essential. Employees are encouraged to take pride in their homes through regular maintenance and renovation programs, with awards given for the best-kept homes and village emplacements.

  • Housing Developments: We currently provide approximately 4,650 residential units for employees and their families, with additional units under construction to accommodate future needs
  • Sustainable Housing: REA constructs homes using eco-friendly "batako" bricks, composed of a blend of boiler ash and cement, thereby reducing costs and environmental impact.
  • Comprehensive Community Facilities: Villages are equipped with medical clinics, crèches, mosques, churches, sports facilities, and markets to support employees and their families.
  • REA Mart: Employee cooperative shops operate in northern and southern estate areas, offering affordable groceries and household necessities through bulk purchasing.
  • Fast Food Outlet: A new Rocket Chicken fast food franchise was established in 2024 to provide convenient dining options for employees.
  • Indoor Sports Facilities: In 2024, modern indoor sports facilities were launched to promote employee wellness and active lifestyles.
Education Support

We believe that access to quality education is essential for the well-being of our employees and their families. Our REA Educational Foundation operates 27 schools, from pre-school to junior high school, ensuring children receive formal education within the estates.

  • School Network: Operates 27 schools, comprising 13 pre-schools, 13 primary schools, and 1 secondary school, with 2,655 students enrolled as of 31 December 2024. At the end of 2024, there were 2,655 students (536 pre-school, 1,874 primary school and 245 secondary school children) enrolled in the group’s school system.
  • Facility Upgrades: In 2023, several school buildings and buses were upgraded, and a new junior high school was built to enhance learning experiences.
  • Teacher Development: New faculty members were recruited, and existing staff received upskilling and training to improve education quality.
  • Early Childhood Support: Each estate has dedicated crèches to provide a nurturing environment for young children.
Healthcare Services

Given the limited healthcare access in rural Indonesia, REA has developed a comprehensive medical network to support employees, their families, and local communities.v

  • Medical Network: 19 clinics operate across the estates, staffed by 3 doctors, 20 paramedics, 12 midwives, 2 pharmacists, a laboratory assistant, a nutritionist, and an environmental health officer.
  • Central Medical Centre: Opened in 2023, doubling patient capacity and offer 24-hour emergency care, maternity services, dental care, a laboratory, and a pharmacy.
  • National Health Recognition: In 2022, REA Kaltim was awarded "Best Private Clinic" for family planning services by the National Family Planning Agency (BKKBN), East Kalimantan Province.
Preventive Healthcare & Wellness Programs

REA provides regular health check-ups, disease prevention programs, and medical screenings to promote long-term health and well-being.

  • Health & Safety Training: All employees receive basic life support training, with additional first aid certification for specific staff levels.
  • Disease Prevention: Employees are trained in preventing dengue, typhoid, and other infectious diseases, while female employees receive cervical cancer screening education.
  • Vaccination & Immunization: Monthly government-supported immunisation programs offer vaccines for MMR, polio, and other preventable diseases.
  • Occupational Health Checks: Regular medical screenings monitor exposure to chemicals, dust, and noise, ensuring workplace safety. Substance-Free Workplace: Random drug testing is conducted yearly to maintain a safe and healthy environment.
Employee Engagement & Social Activities

In addition to housing, healthcare, and education, we also support programmes that foster a sense of community and belonging.

  • Annual Celebrations: Events such as Independence Day and Family Day help strengthen employee bonding.
  • REA Care Initiative: A semi-formal voluntary network, REA Care, has been set up to support employees and non-employee volunteers involved in community-based social programs. This initiative aims to reinforce social connections and provide care for estate residents, especially within village settlements.
